The original Nier game did release on the Xbox 360 but the sequel titled Nier Automata will not be making its way to the Xbox One. Automata is set to release in North America on March 10, 2017.
Nier Automata producer Yosuke Saito explained why the company made the decision on not releasing the game for the Xbox One, revealing that the Xbox One market in Japan wasn’t as strong. He continued by saying “There are currently no plans to release on this platform. The main reason for this is that the Japanese market for Xbox One is not strong, so the decision was made to focus on PlayStation 4 rather than to split our efforts across two platforms.”
“The biggest benefit to developing on one platform is that we did not have to split our time, allowing us to focus more on the quality,” Saito continued.
“It is not about whether one platform is better than the other, it’s that from a development point of view were can devote more time to one platform.”
First Scalebound and now Nier Automata, we can only speculate on the relationship between PlatinumGames and Microsoft.
